Our 2024 workshops, batizado, and graduation ceremony have come to a close! This event celebrated our founding director, Mestra Márcia Cigarra, on her 33rd year of leading ABADÁ-Capoeira SF. That’s 33 years of dedication to enhancing San Francisco’s art and cultural ecosystem!
We are grateful to our Guest of Honor, Mestrando Pretinho, who traveled all the way from Brazil to lead the week’s events, as well as to our special guests, Mestranda Yara, Professor Côco, and Professor Jabuti, for sharing their energy, talent, and experience with us.
These events, which encourage storytelling, conversation, information exchange, and informal ceremonies, are what keep capoeira thriving and support its practitioners. They inspire and promote the sustainability of this ancestral art, which has persevered through shared experiences.
Congratulations to Mestra Cigarra for another successful event, and to Instrutor Soldadinho and Graduada Toninha for graduating our capoeira kids!
A big congratulations as well to all the students who were baptized, received a new cord, and to everyone who participated in our community. As Mestra Márcia Cigarra remarked about this special event: “It was an unlimited exchange of experiences and a great recognition of our diverse journeys, united by a common denominator: dedication and perseverance. Everyone can achieve their goals. Be yourself without comparing yourself to anyone.”
We are already looking forward to 2025’s batizado!
