Dear ACSF Community Member,
Right now many of our community members, including myself, feel profound uncertainty and fear of what is to come. We know that now, perhaps more than ever, our community needs ABADÁ-Capoeira SF (ACSF).
Capoeira was born out of a resistance to oppression and a long, brutal fight for freedom and human rights. Today, it is an internationally respected art of grace and strength. To me, this history exemplifies the power of the human spirit, and that good can conquer evil through perseverance.
The strength of our community lies in our diversity. Those who have entered our doors leave as stronger individuals with a broadened understanding of the power in respecting differences, resolving conflict with integrity and dignity, and practicing intelligent and compassionate leadership in all areas of one’s life.
For twenty five years, ACSF has served as a safe place where people come together to learn skills, find inspiration, experience art deeply rooted in tradition, and practice civic virtue. Where young people are guided by strong, positive role models.
If there was ever a time for us to come together to support one another, it is now. Help us ensure that more people, especially children and teens, get the opportunity to learn the beauty and power in diversity, the importance of moving forward with respect for the past, and the truth that winning doesn’t come from dominating your partner, but instead, from working together.
