In November 1992, Mestra Cigarra (then Professora Cigarra) organized and presented her first San Francisco-based Batizado and workshops series. Now, in October, she is organizing and presenting her 32nd annual event! This year’s event will include our youth program students, in addition to our teen and adult students. Mestra will be joined in presenting this year’s event by our youth instructors, Instrutor Soldadinho and Graduada Toninha. We invite you to join us as we celebrate another year of our community’s accomplishments.
This multi-generational event provides an unparalleled opportunity for our community to gather with guest master capoeiristas from ABADÁ Brazil and North America for intensive learning through workshops, lectures, ceremony, and performances.
This year’s guest of honor is world-renowned capoeirista, teacher, and singer, Mestrando Pretinho, from Barra Mansa, RJ, Brazil. We’ll be hosting other guest artists—see below!— who we’re excited to introduce to our local students, as well as visiting students who will travel to San Francisco for the event.
