We are overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who supported and participated in our historic show. Performed over May 3-5, 2024 in San Francisco’s Z Space, CIGARRA honored Mestra Márcia Cigarra’s role in capoeira as a woman who continues to blaze a trail for others in the art and highlighted those who have followed in her path.
We are especially grateful to Mestrando Mobília, Mestranda Gigi, and Instrutoras Perla and Bombom, who traveled all the way from Brazil to bring their energy to the shows, and all the visiting and local artists. And to all of the enthusiastic and supportive audience members who came and enjoyed the shows.
This production was years in the making and a dream project of Mestra Cigarra’s, and we were delighted with the final outcome. We view this project as a seed from which new work will grow, helping us further tell the story of the women who have helped shape capoeira and amplify the next generation of artists who will continue the legacy forward.
