Experience Capoeira and the Energy of Afro-Cuban Dance

Join Mestra Marcia Treidler, the ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco Performance Company, and collaborator Ramón Ramos Alayo of Alayo Dance Company in an evening-length show as a part of the 18th Annual CubaCaribe Festival of dance and music.

Entitled Acts of Resistance, Acts of Joy, the performance investigates Brazil’s and Cuba’s history and relationship to Carnaval, focusing on their shared African heritage and culture.

The collaboration unpacks the legacy of blocos, cabildos, and comparsas in Carnaval and how they have historically functioned as forms of resistance and power—and expressions of joy. Our companies aim to bring our communities together and strengthen our connections by celebrating our shared stories.
