We consistently receive more requests for classes, performances, and residencies than we have artists to fulfill them. While this sounds like a good problem to have, the reality is that, despite our teachers being committed and highly skilled, they all have other jobs to make ends meet in San Francisco.
We prioritize the well-being of our staff, but offering livable wages remains a challenge. Mestra Márcia Cigarra is our only full-time artist; the others juggle additional jobs to afford to live in San Francisco.
This is why we’re asking our community to help us raise $40,000 by Dec 31st: We want to pay a wage competitive with our teachers’ other job earnings, allowing them to not only do what they love, but meet the need for high-quality arts, music, and athletic education.
Your donation will help our teachers achieve economic security, reduce their risk of displacement, and ensure the resilience and longevity of our school as a cornerstone of art and culture in San Francisco.
We hope you’ll donate to help our teaching artists do what they do best: share the magic, discipline, athleticism, and community of capoeira. Can you help our teachers teach?
