Thank you to all who participated or supported our young artists! This multi-day event included a showcase performance of our youth and young adults hosted at our Capoeira Arts Center, and, an educational workshop and stage performance at Dance Mission Theater.
The Festival provided an important and unique opportunity for our youth to showcase their skills; learn performance and production concepts; create new choreography; interact in a meaningful way with other Mission-based youth artists; and be a part of something both empowering and uplifting. Following the event many youth expressed an increased interest in performing and training more. In fact, since the Festival we have noticed a spike in class attendance!
The Mission Youth Arts Festival provided a shared platform for young artists to come together to create and express their experiences as Mission District youth in a neighborhood changing daily. The 2018 Festival proved to provide the participating youth with a sense of place in their ever-evolving community.
The Festival highlighted the diverse youth arts programs from the Mission, as well as the many issues our community faces. We look forward to partnering with Dance Mission Theater and the rest of the Mission District youth programs for the June 2019 Festival!
