We’re Not Going Anywhere

Dear Community,

Capoeira is rooted in resilience, freedom, and justice. This history inspires me, Mestra Márcia Cigarra, along with our board and staff, to use our practice to strengthen and uplift under-resourced communities, and to facilitate connections among individuals who may not have otherwise crossed paths.

For 33 years, people of all ages and backgrounds have come together through our organization to learn and share traditions that inspire joy, creative expression, and civic responsibility. We intend for this to continue. If you’re looking for social connection and a safe and inclusive space to engage, heal, express yourself, and find joy, join us.

We are here for you.

The history of capoeira shows us it is possible to transform oppression through consistent, creative resistance. We will continue to look to this history for inspiration and lessons on how to combat injustices, push past society’s limiting beliefs, and celebrate our unique identities.

Our community values respect, honesty, inclusivity, equality, integrity, education, and freedom. Welcoming all through our doors helps to spread these values, and those open doors are what we have to change the world.

If this letter resonates with you, join us. And if you know someone who it wouldn’t resonate with, please invite them to class. Or, at the very least, share with them our latest news, which you can find below.

Together, we build collective resilience.

With love,

Jennifer Walsh, Executive Director
